Reminder: “Community” to Rock Your Socks

Hey kids, this is just a friendly reminder to set those VCRs (seriously, does anybody do that any more?) and be sure to catch the series premiere of Community this Thursday at 9:30/8:30c.  Ryan and I will release a Critical Hit! of our thoughts soon after, and wouldn’t it be nice to actually know what we were talking about for once?

Critical Hit! #1: Harper’s Island

by

The debut of a brand new feature: the Critical Hit! Critical Hits will be shorter than our regular shows and probably not about a new movie, but something a bit looser or more topical. Like a television show with a recently aired finale. Or in the case of Harper’s Island, a television show with a finale that had recently aired before we took forever to release this episode. Still…Critical Hit!

Download it.

The Return of Chevy Chase

COMEDY.

COMEDY.

You know what? It’s time to take back comedy, damn it. No longer will we allow Hollywood to force feed us whatever mediocre new film Judd Apatow is producing! No longer will we listen to any Radiohead listening, PBR sucking hipster explain the brilliance of Bill Murray! It’s time to take a stand! You hear me people?! Who’s with me? LET’S GO!

Hello?

Well, if there’s anybody still reading, that time has come. And by “that time” I mean the return of one Mr. Cornelius Crane Chase. A second coming has been predicted for some time now (your pals here at Critical End! are still trying to figure out why Vegas Vacation didn’t work like it was supposed to), and it looks like it’s going to come from both your TV and local cinema. Take that, Murray!

First off, if you haven’t heard of Community yet, you obviously haven’t been hanging out with me for the past six months. Check out this NBC promo for the scoop. It’s packed with lots of Chevy goodness!

That’s a start in the right direction! But I know you…now you’re thinking, “Gee, Logan, that’s swell and all, but where’s the R-rated Chevy that I’ve heard tale of? Also, you’re ever so handsome.” Whoa. Settle down there, ladies. For those of you who want to see Chevy return to his R-rated roots, check out this teaser for Hot Tub Time Machine!

Granted, Chevy is no where to be seen in this teaser, but do you really want to turn down the chance to see John Cusack and Chevy in the same movie? I think not!

Let the comedy revolution begin!

UPDATE: Logan Lee to Wet Pants

Some of you may recall my open letter to NBC back in March about the fate of a certain new show starring the absolute dream cast of Chevy Chase and Joel McHale. Today I am proud to report that this wonderful show, or Community as the gods have so named it, is now a reality. Let there be dancing in the streets.

Since IMDB doesn’t have a listing for it yet, the only info I have found is a short two line summary on this site. Don’t bother clicking on it, as here’s the best part:
community

Needless to say, I think I just peed a little. Is it too soon to declare this the greatest show ever? I think not.

I Can Die Happy Now

HELLS YEAH.

Dear NBC,

Do you even need to test this pilot? The answer is clearly no. Just air it no questions asked. I will forever love you and forgive you for Andy Barker, P.I. Please? Did I mention that I’m also sick and dying from…um…cancer (yeah, that’s a good one). Cancer and AIDS actually. My AIDS have cancer. It’s all very very sad. Really, NBC. Could you say no to this face?

I loves the Chevy!

I loves the Chevy!

News So Dumb It Might Make You Dumber by Reading It

While it’s close enough to April 1st that you may think I’m just joking around here, I must assure you that I am not. Here goes:

The Sci Fi Channel has decided to change it’s name to…wait for it…the Syfy Channel.

When you’re done reading that last sentence over again for the fifth time, read more about it here.

So why the change? Because Dave Howe, president of the Sci Fi Channel- oh, I’m sorry. I mean, the Syfy Channel (do you really want that on your business card, Mr. Howe?) is working under the impression that most proper spellings should be changed to the way people text them. Here’s the actual quote from Howe to tell you more:

davehowe

“When we tested this new name, the thing that we got back from our 18-to-34 techno-savvy crowd, which is quite a lot of our audience, is actually this is how you’d text it. It made us feel much cooler, much more cutting-edge, much more hip, which was kind of bang-on what we wanted to achieve communication-wise.”

When pressed for further details, Lowe said that he really had to get “B2W TTYL” but did assure the reporters that they were all his “BFFL”.

Oscar Week at Critical End!

by
Not appropriate award show attire.

Not appropriate award show attire.

Yes, folks, it’s time once again for your favorite stars to sit awkwardly in an auditorium for three hours, hoping desperately to validate their careers with an 8 pound pewter statuette. It’s a great time for movie lovers, and Critical End! will be celebrating all week with our thoughts on this year’s nominees, our picks to win, and other Academy-related tomfoolery.

And it all comes to a head this Sunday (5PT/8ET on ABC) with The First Annual Critical End! Oscar Live Blog. That’s right, when you sit down to watch the awards, make sure you’ve got your laptop tuned to this site where you’ll find running commentary by me and Logan for the entirety of the broadcast. Don’t have someone to enjoy the show with? Join us and post your comments! Do have someone to enjoy the show with? Ignore them and hang out with us instead.
